Tailor-made processes thanks to integration of standard software

Difficulty in selecting suitable software

Not only since the digitalization entrepreneurs and managing directors have to deal with the selection of suitable and supporting softwares. Often, the decision is based on a classic "make or buy" situation: Should expensive software be developed that is perfectly tailored to individual needs and processes, or should cheaper standard software be purchased "off the shelf" that is not tailored to one's own processes? There are good reasons for both variants and depends on various factors.

Problem of media breaks

Fully integrated ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software such as SAP or Abacus are very comprehensive and powerful. They offer the advantage of integrating various standard processes (time recording, HR, ordering, billing, etc.) and thus have an overall view of the company. Especially for SMEs, these applications often do not represent an efficient solution due to the high costs and the wide range of functions. Therefore, isolated solutions are created, which can only be "synchronized" with laborious manual work. A market study conducted in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences St. Gallen with around 100 Swiss SMEs has shown that for around half of them so-called media breaks represent a major or rather major problem. It also turned out that the lack of time, but also too little specialist knowledge, was one of the biggest challenges for successful problem solving.

Establishing interfaces as an important success factor

Smaller and cheaper business software solutions can help. Nevertheless, the companies have to adapt their own processes to the software, which is also not an optimal solution. This is all the more evident in the increasing digitalization and the resulting increasing demands on the "user experience", i.e. how customers and employees perceive the system and the process.  Many experts are convinced that tailor-made, more efficient information systems will make the difference to the competition in the future.

This focus is increasingly being exemplified by large corporations, but expectations are generally rising, putting many smaller companies under pressure. After all, smaller companies find it difficult to cope with this change and supposedly have no way of keeping up with the corporations.

Comitas can remedy the situation with a hybrid approach

Comitas is successfully pursuing a hybrid approach to solving this challenge. Through a comprehensive analysis of the existing system landscape, optimisation potentials are identified and integration and extension options in existing systems are identified.  Processes that cannot or only inadequately be mapped by the business software are then either covered by further standard software using a so-called "best of breed" approach or supplemented by a proprietary application.

More room for replication of the individual service creation process through integration of standard software

Because commodity processes use standard software, there are more resources available to differentiate the service delivery and customer processes by accurately replicating one's own specific process. These processes also offer the greatest leverage for (business) benefit and differentiation potential. Individual development allows you to remain flexible if requirements change in the future - agility is crucial in the ongoing digital transformation phase when it comes to responding quickly to customer needs. In addition, the solution can also grow with it.

Maintaining independence

In order to reduce the dependency on individual development and to guarantee maintainability, we at Comitas rely on Microsoft .Net technology, which is widely used and can be supported both internally and externally.

Our numerous project references show that we can successfully combine integrations into existing system landscapes as well as new application developments and implement them profitably for our customers.
